The emphasis of Government of Rwanda  is on winning prestigious competitions, which attract the maximum number of participants.

One of the target of NST1 is to create off- farm jobs under this program. The Ministry of Sports is aiming to have many as much possible    sports professional and targeting competitors at the Olympic Games or World Games. To achieve this, student athletes, especially in schools sports of excellence  are mostly focused on.

Since 2020, the Ministry of Sports started focusing on planning based of findings where by the  researches in sports psychology and sports medicine etc… would be  motivated by the needs of elite rather than mass athletes. 

The Ministry of Sports categorizes  three categories below in order to pursue the implementation of the policy.

The Ministry of Sports (MINISPORTS) works hands in hands with National Federations to  ensure smooth National Teams Logistics. 

The Ministry provides financial support related to national teams’ operations and Logistics.

The Ministry establishes the Local Organizing Committees (LOC) to ensure a well-coordinated International Sport related events in the Country where our national Teams must participate in.

  • Rwanda  hosted FIBA AFROBASKET  2021. In 2019, Rwanda was ranked 9th in Africa and 91st in the World by the International Basketball Federation Association (FIBA) world ranking. 

Football: 

  • Rwanda hosted the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) in 2016. 

 Volleyball 

  • Rwanda's U20 Women Volley ball Team is ranked 15th in the World and 2nd in Africa
  • Women Sitting Volley Ball team is ranked the 1st in Africa.
  • Rwanda Volley Ball Senior Team is ranked 5th in Africa
