Sport and Culture Sector has to offer 10.000 off-farm jobs every year
The 7 Year Government Program, particularly pillar IV, program 5 stated as follows: “Government will continue to promote sports and leisure and to support Rwanda’s efforts to enjoy a bigger share in international competitions. After undergoing all required step and have the best players. Three stages have been established to make sure our players have accompanied up to the certification level.
The Ministry has the responsibility to follow up over national teams during preparation and in competitions in line with
calendars of sport and games federations.
The Ministry enhances the publicity of sports activities and exposure given to sporting activities to stimulate public support and participation;
It develops sports infrastructure facilities that meet international standards and others that allow mass participation of the public in a range of sports disciplines.
It promotes gender equity and participation of disabled people in different sports activities
Establish a system of motivating sports men and women to reach their full potential and individuals or organizations that promote sports.
The Ministry leverages the development of sports in Rwanda as a significant opportunity for economic generation through the hosting of international sporting events, the export of sport talent, and the commercialization of the sporting industry in Rwanda.
Key Highlights
In Rwanda, there are 33 sports federations which coordinate all sporting and gaming activities falling within its responsibilities at the national level; to prepare a sustainable development plan for its respective sport and game basing on the national sport and games development policy; to organise and authorise organisation of national tournaments of sport and game under its ambit basing on national and international rules and regulations; to ensure preparatory arrangements for a national team participating in an international competition;
National Olympic Committee of Rwanda was established in 1984 for the following key responsibilities: to coordinate sport and games federations and associations under their umbrella; to contribute to capacity building of sport and games federations and association and to coordinate and supervise activities relating to preparation of Olympic games.
In 2017, Sport and Culture have become a sector and the Sector Strategic Plan has been developed. This Sector Strategic Plan highlights the significant role of Sports and Culture in the governance, economic and social areas for the transformation of our community. It acknowledges the diversity of participation of different stakeholders who are involved at all levels, required infrastructure and greater promotion of Sports and Culture towards health and education. Most important, this Sector Strategic Plan also connects priorities to the National Sports and Culture framework which provides a clear pathway in pursuit of a high performing Sports and Culture Sector.
